machining a water jug from raw stock
Sept - Dec 2025
This was an emotionally tough project, and it taught me how much your sequence of operations, scoping, and workholding really matter. Using the radius cutter on the lathe took a lot of calculation to get right.
Workholding was the hardest part. When I was shaping the bottom of the jug, there was so much mass that it kept flying out of the lathe. I ended up putting a small hole in the bottom on the mill, then holding the piece from both sides to keep it stable.
